Empathy and Compassion
“I don’t think people still realise what bullying or critical comment passed just passed on very carelessly can do to a person. Being bullying is something many of us have experienced in schools and colleges unfortunately.
I lacked confidence while I was growing up, and I used to be this really quiet child because I was bullied a lot through most of my school years. I wasn’t a very bright student either, so obviously that would very easily amplify the disappointment I saw in the eyes of my teachers and parents.
It was, I think in class 11 or so, one of my teacher started pushing me to read the news in front of whole school everyday. And I remember, lot of those bullies would be there in assembly, and even though I couldn’t gather the strength to standup to myself, with each passing days, while reading the news my voice became more stronger and confident. It felt like I was unfolding the performer in me. I think I had it decided. No matter who said what, somewhere I knew who I wanted to became. I didn’t let bullies change the narrative I had for myself.
It’s very important to teach empathy and compassion to the people around us, especially the kids. If you are reading this, Please make sure you treat the people the way you’d want them to treat you, I live by that.
Till date I thank that teacher of mine, it’s because of her, I guess, I became who I am today, a voice artist and a radio jockey.”
